Crocheting a small and cute snake is a fun and easy project. Here’s a simple guide to help you create your little snake!
Materials Needed:
- Yarn:
- Green (for the body)
- Red (for the tongue)
- Black or safety eyes (for the eyes)
- Crochet hook: 2.5mm – 3.5mm or size appropriate for your yarn
- Fiberfill: For stuffing
- Yarn needle: For sewing and weaving in ends
- Stitch marker: To mark your rounds
Crochet Abbreviations:
- ch: Chain
- sc: Single crochet
- inc: Increase (2 sc in one stitch)
- dec: Decrease (sc two stitches together)
- sl st: Slip stitch
- MR: Magic ring
- FO: Fasten off
Instructions:
1. Snake Head (Green Yarn)
- Round 1: Make a magic ring with green yarn, and 6 sc into the ring (6).
- Round 2: Inc in each stitch around (12).
- Round 3: 1 sc, inc around (18).
- Round 4: 2 sc, inc around (24).
- Round 5-7: Sc around (24).
- Round 8: 2 sc, dec around (18).
- Round 9: 1 sc, dec around (12).
- Round 10: Dec around (6). Stuff the head lightly with fiberfill, FO, and close the gap.
2. Snake Body (Green Yarn)
- Round 1: Attach green yarn to the back of the head.
- Round 2: Sc around (6).
- Round 3-18 (or desired length): Continue to sc around (6) to make a long, cylindrical body. You can adjust the length depending on how long you want your snake to be.
- FO and leave a long tail for sewing if needed.
3. Snake Tail (Green Yarn)
- Round 1: Continue from the body. 1 sc, dec around (4).
- Round 2: Dec 2 times (2). FO and close the tail.
4. Snake Tongue (Red Yarn)
- Ch 6 with red yarn, and sl st back along the chain.
- FO and leave a tail to sew the tongue into the front of the head.
5. Eyes
- For the eyes, you can either use safety eyes or sew black yarn circles just above the mouth on either side of the head.
Assembly:
- Sew the red tongue to the front of the snake’s head.
- Attach the eyes to the head.
- Weave in all ends and trim any excess yarn.
Optional: Curling the Snake
- You can gently bend and curl the snake’s body to give it a cute pose, such as curling it into a little spiral.
Now you have a cute snake ready to slither around as a fun decoration or keychain!
